Hybrid Heating is a great fit for new buildings

HybridHEAT is an energy-efficient heating system for both new buildings and renovated properties. Easy tender process, smooth planning and quick installation are features that are valued by all contractors. Residents also appreciate when the property’s heating is efficient and environmentally friendly.

One of the most important decisions on a contractor’s table is the choice of heating system. Simplicity, reliability and environmental friendliness should be combined in the same package and in a cost-effective manner, if possible.

Hybrid heating, which combines several different forms of heating, is an excellent solution for this need. HögforsGST’s Managing Director Antti Hartman has noted that the popularity of hybrid heating is starting to rise not only among renovation contractors but also among new buildings.

- Hybrid heating, which has proven to be popular in renovated properties for several years, is being implemented in a growing number of new buildings as well. From the contractor’s perspective, hybrid heating is an effortless and reliable choice that combines environmental friendliness and reasonable investment costs, Hartman states.

Effortless process from bidding to installation

HybridHEAT is a modular, factory-tested system that can be easily designed to fit various purposes.

HybridHEAT makes the contractor’s life easier, as tendering and installation go smoothly, says Juha Virkki, Business Director responsible for HögforsGST's Engineer Service.

- A hybrid heating system is easy to tender, as HybridHEAT's quotation includes accurate return and investment calculations. The profitability of different heat source combinations can also be examined during the process.

- A wide field of designers and contractors can implement the design and installation of the modular HybridHEAT system, which makes the tender process easier, Virkki adds.

Thanks to the factory-made, modular components of HybridHEAT, budgeting is also more accurate.

When the prefabricated parts are delivered to the site with clear installing instructions, the time spent in on-site construction can be minimized and the installation can largely focus on connecting the factory-made components together.

- And HögforsGST's Engineer service offers comprehensive technical support during both planning and installation, Virkki adds.

In addition to the fast installation, the advantages of a hybrid heating system also include the possibility of heating the property during construction.

If the hybrid system combines district heating and heat pump heat, district heating can be used to heat the building in the construction phase.

Juha Virkki also points out that a hybrid heating system requires less space than e.g., a geothermal system of similar caliber. Smaller size makes planning and installing the system easier.

- A hybrid heating system requires significantly less space both inside and outside of the building: the number of heat pumps is smaller and the space required by geothermal wells is only a fraction compared to a full geothermal system. The electrical infrastructure is also lighter when the electricity demand of the heat pumps is lower, says Virkki.

Environmentally friendly heating with a reasonable investment – HybridHEAT futureproofs your property

The lighter electrical infrastructure, as well as smaller need for heat pumps and space are also reflected in the costs of the hybrid heating system. The investment cost of a hybrid heating system is significantly lower than, for example, a geothermal system.

Another one of hybrid heating’s strengths is also its flexibility: the property can use almost any energy source for heating.

A hybrid heating system can combine district heating, geothermal energy, exhaust air heat recovery, solar energy, heat pump energy or any combination of these, just to mention a few examples.

Juha Virkki says that the range of different hybrid systems is constantly growing across the Nordic countries.

- Majority of the hybrid heating systems we have implemented combine district heating and exhaust air heat recovery, but the popularity of geothermal hybrid systems is also on the rise. For example, combinations of geothermal energy, district heating and/or heat recovery are examples of the versatility of the HybridHEAT, Virkki lists.

A property that chooses HybridHEAT also prepares for the changing energy market, as heat sources can be added into HybridHEAT’s “heat source palette” also after installation.

- For instance, solar energy may be a more profitable energy source in the future than it is today. HybridHEAT is the only system that enables combining several different forms of renewable energy both now and in the future, Virkki says.

Effortless living and emission reductions – HybridHEAT guarantees resident satisfaction

In the real estate market, increasing attention is being paid to the energy efficiency and environmental friendliness of the property’s heating system.

In addition to the cost savings, the contractor who chooses hybrid heating can highlight the environmentally friendly hybrid heating in their marketing.

A hybrid system equipped with a heat pump can also be used for cooling, if a set of additional cooling-specific equipment is installed.

According to Antti Hartman, the need and demand for cooling is growing.

- With the summers getting hotter, cooling is highly appreciated, especially in new buildings. With a hybrid system, both heating and cooling can be done easily and cost-effectively, says Hartman.

For the resident, a hybrid-heated apartment is a green choice. Also, thanks to the smart remote-control system, the hybrid system always operates at high efficiency.

Combining multiple heat sources also yields benefits by giving the property a chance to switch between heat sources as their market prices fluctuate.

Virkki uses a hybrid heating system with district heating and a heat pump as an example.

- For example, when electricity is expensive, district heating can be prioritized in heating the property. In times when electricity is cheaper, heating can be produced with a heat pump. Thus, HybridHEAT can always produce heat with the cheapest heat source, Virkki calculates.

HybridHEAT systems are always delivered with Fiksu Control System, a smart control system that optimizes the system’s operation and allows for remote monitoring and contor.

Through Fiksu, residents can stay up to date with their energy consumption and the savings produced by the system from real-time reports.
